玉川助教が開講する、大学院講義『英語で読む神経生物学原理』(Principles of Neurobiology第2版の輪読会)の、後期のお疲れ様会を騎射場の串カツ大黒で行いました。 後期は、博士課程3人と修士課程2人、医学科6年生1人のメンバーで、Chapter 11 "Memory, Learning, and Synaptic Plasticity"を読破しました。 受講生が留学生のみとなったので、文字起こしした文章をGoogle翻訳ページに英語で読んでもらい、担当者が英語で説明を加え、聴衆が英語で質問し、担当者または玉川が英語で答える、という形式で行いました。全員が英語を母国語としない人でしたが、皆さん頑張りました。
今回、基礎の神経生物学の知識が弱いことを実感されたので、初心に帰り、これからChapter 1 => Chapter 2と読んでいきます。引き続き英語で!読む担当をすると意思表明する日本人学生も現れ、有意義な輪読会になってきているなぁと思われます。 この輪読会は、通年で、毎週オンライン(Teams meeting)で、前期は水曜日の6限、後期は月曜日の6限に行っています。もし参加したいという方は玉川までご連絡ください。学部生など受講されない学生さんも学生でない方もウェルカムです。
Assistant Professor Tamagawa held a wrap-up party for the second semester of his graduate-level lecture, “Reading Neurobiology Principles in English” (a seminar on the second edition of “Principles of Neurobiology”), at Kushikatsu Daikoku in Kisha-ba. The second semester was attended by three doctoral students, two master's students, and one sixth-year medical student, who completed Chapter 11, “Memory, Learning, and Synaptic Plasticity.” Since all participants were international students, we had them read the transcribed text in English on a Google Translate page, followed by explanations in English by the facilitator, with audience members asking questions in English and the facilitator or Dr. Tamagawa answering in English. Although none of the participants had English as their first language, everyone made a great effort.
This experience made us realize that our foundational knowledge of neurobiology is weak, so we will return to the basics and proceed with reading from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2. We will continue in English! Some Japanese students have also volunteered to take turns reading, making this a meaningful reading group. This reading group is held year-round, every week online (via Teams meeting), with sessions on Wednesdays at the 6th period in the first semester and Mondays at the 6th period in the second semester.
