Profile

Portrait of Hiroyuki Okuno

Hiroyuki Okuno, Ph.D.

In April 2018, I was appointed Professor at the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (formerly the Second Department of Biochemistry), Faculty of Medicine, Kagoshima University. I am committed wholeheartedly to education and research at the Faculty of Medicine and the Graduate School of Kagoshima University.

Since I was first captivated by the depth of neuroscience while studying cerebral physiology in my doctoral program, I have continuously worked in the field of neuroscience and brain science. Through pursuing the fundamental question of how individual genes and protein molecules act on neural circuits to support our cognitive activities, I hope to contribute, even modestly, to the understanding of the molecular pathology of cognitive impairments and psychiatric/neurological disorders, and to the development of therapeutic strategies.
