JICA course, "Island Medice"

This department is managing the JICA training course, “Island Medicine” that provides opportunities to improve quality of medical service by development of human resources who will engage in island medicine and medicine in remote area through utilizing various experiences in such community health service and research that Kagoshima has conducted so far under cooperation of administration and universities. In addition, not only the training of medical system in terms of visiting nurse and remote medicine in which Kagoshima Prefecture conducts, but also providing opportunities to observe doctors who conducts holistic medicine based on regional and comprehensive medicine in remote island, the trainees are able to draw attention to common advantages that island regions of their home countries and Japan have, so as to utilize those advantages for community health.

This course is supported by JICA after proposed by Kagoshima Prefecture. The first course was conducted in 2002 with two participants from Indonesia and Philippines; the second in 2004 with one participant from Philippines; and third in Feb-Apr, 2005 with two participants from Indonesia and Philippines. The nest course is planned in Jan-Mar, 2006 with two participants from Philippines. Application should be submitted to the JICA office after the official information is provided by JICA.
